CRPS Self Help hopes to contribute to creating an awareness of the devastating effects of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) or Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD)
The author of the book Sunny Boshoff, developed CRPS after a crush injury to her right hand. She began using her left hand to write a diary. This evolved into CRPS Awareness, which records the array of symptoms she experienced and the extraordinary lack of awareness which unfolded as she tried to understand what was happening to her. Sunny is convinced that early diagnosis, keeping positive and using all the advice and exercises given by Occupational Therapists prevented her CRPS from becoming disabling. The magic of mirror therapy aroused an interest in neuroscience and in particular the way in which pain is processed in the brain. Sunny says "Mind over matter can seem an absurd notion when dealing with such overwhelming pain, but you have to keep going in a positive way. Find ways to help your body to attain optimum health to fight the condition, and try not lose a sense of humour."
The book tells of Sunny's journey and discoveries.
